I first noticed this Kurbside sitting in a field back in 1982 while I was headed to the beach for a surf session and thought, "how cool would it be to have that as my new surf vehicle" !
I had missed the turn off to access the property and it was quite a challenge to turn around due to road conditions, so I made a mental note to stop the next time I was in the area.

Long story short, I kept missing the driveway with each pass as it was in a tricky position on a long, fast right hand turn and if you are not ready for it, it would just simply be too late.

30 years LATER.....  as a friend and I were passing the area, I noticed the van STILL IN THE SAME SPOT !!! I had relayed the story of the van to my buddy who then picked up his cell phone and called the owner of the van ( I had no idea that my buddy knew the owner ), they chatted for a bit, hung up and my buddy says " If you still want's yours, go get it and I'll get the paperwork from the owner in a few days " !

As an 18 year old back in 1982, I had the idea of building the van but no real means to do so.....just a vision.....but 30 some years later, I have a little money in the bank, some know-how, time, energy and I decided to take on the new project.

After obtaining the 1958 Kurbside, I began to seek out an appropriate chassis and drive-line combo to meet my wants and needs.

Currently this unit is equipped with a 2004 Chevrolet 1/2 ton Silverado chassis, 6.0l LS / Vortec engine, 4L80E transmission with a shift reprogramming kit, 4.88:1 ring and pinion with a limited slip differential, 4 wheel disc brakes with ABS.
I mounted a set of 22" wheels and tires, lowering front spindles and springs, "flipped" the rear axle and c-notched the chassis and dropped the body over the chassis 2" in the front.

I went to great lengths to not cut-up the interior of the body so that I would have full use of the floor area without obstruction. My idea was to keep it looking as original as possible but completely upgrade the undercarriage / drive train.

This Kurbside has been FANTASTIC in obtaining notice and recognition for my company and really draws out the curiosity in those who see it.

Primarily this unit is used for pick-up and delivery of motorcycles for my business and is in use nearly every business day.

Just for kicks, I have taken this unit to the drag strip where it recorded a low 14 second run in full, everyday street trim with no added "tuning".....I'd say that's not too shabby.
